There are many strange holes on earth that are geographical phenomenon and most astounding sites in the world. Some holes are made naturally but some are made by humans in searching for the mining wealth. Some people believed that the holes are the pathway to hell. 10. Guatemala’s Sinkhole

In Central America the first Sinkhole occurred in 2007 because of the corroded sewage system underneath the city roads. More than 300 foot deep sinkhole swallowed a dozen of homes and killed two people. Three years later in 2010, another sinkhole of 200 feet depth three floor building. These sinkholes were caused by rains and an underground sewage flow.

Chuquicamata is a mine in Chile with the largest total production of copper in the world. Copper has been mined for many centuries in Chuquicamata. This mine is over 850 meters deep makes it the second deepest open pit mine in the world after Canyon mine.

Udachnaya Pipe is a diamond mine located in Russia. This mine was discovered on 15th June 1955 and it is the third deepest open pit mine in the world with the depth of over 600 meters. In 2010 the Udachnaya Pipe is controlled by the Russian diamond company, Alrosa.

Monticello Dam is a Dam in California constructed between 1953-1957. It is a medium concrete arch dam with a  height of over 300 feet. It contains 3,26000 cubic yards of concrete. The capacity of the reservoir is 1,602,000 acre-ft. It has spillway with the rate of 48,000 cubic feet per second.

The Mirny Diamond Mine is the first and one of the largest diamond pipes in the USSR. Its depth is 525 meters and has a diameter of 1200 meters. The mine is operated by Alrosa, the largest diamond company in Russia with the total number of 3600 workers. A truck takes more than two hours to drive from the top to the bottom of the mine.

From 1866 to 1914 more than 50,000 miners dug a hole with their shovels and collects over 2700 kg of diamonds. The Kimberley Diamond Mine is the largest hand dug hole in the world and registered as the world heritage site. The hole is 463 meters wide and the depth is over 215 meters. But underneath the surface the hole was mined to a depth of 1097 meters.

The Bingham Canyon Mine has been in production since 1906 and produces 17 million tons of copper, 715 tons of gold, 6000 tons of silver, 386 kt of molybdenum every every. The mine is 1.2 km deep and 4 km wide. In 1966, it was designated a National Historic landmark under the name Bingham Canyon Ope Pit Copper Mine.

Great Blue Hole is a large submarine sinkhole off the coast of Belize. It was formed as a limestone cave during the last ice age. The hole is circular in shape, 300 meter wide and 124 meters deep.
