We started with the program's main selling point, its Registry Cleaner. Our first scan uncovered 412 registry issues, with six deemed unsafe. We did like that it offers a breakdown of the scan results before any action is taken, allowing you to manually select which keys you want fix instead of leaving it up to the program. What we didn't like was that it didn't ask us if we wanted to create a backup of our registry before moving forward. This is imperative for all users in case a registry key is deleted by mistake. The program does include a Backup feature that lets you create a system restore point and a full backup, but it's up to you to do it first.

Once we had made our selections, we clicked the Start Cleaning button, and in literally a second, the program came back claiming that all but four issues were resolved. For those of us who are forgetful about regular PC maintenance, Wise lets you schedule regular registry scans so that you don't have to remember. As a bonus, the program includes a System Tuneup feature that offers to improve bootup and shutdown speeds; we found that it worked. The Registry Defrag also lived up to its promise of tidying up our registry to improve our computer's performance. An ample online help feature is available, though we think that most users won't need to use it for basic cleanups.

Wise Registry Cleaner installs and uninstalls without any issues. We still don't recommend that new users poke around in their registry, but the program works just fine for those of us who are more comfortable with keeping it

Its four features -- Cleaner, Registry, Tools, and Options -- are prominently displayed on the left side of the window. At first glance, Advanced SystemCare has everything you would think you'd ever need to keep a PC in tip-top shape: uninstallers, driver updaters, and so on. However, not all are better alternatives than their stock counterparts. For example, the Windows 8 Process Explorer is a much more usable solution.

Advanced SystemCare's user experience is a mixed bag. We didn't have any trouble opting for a one-click-fix solution for many of our computer "issues," but we took that option because of information overload.

If you have absolutely no security or tweaking tools, then it might be worth taking a look at Advanced SystemCare. The uninstallation process is tedious and inefficient, because the product treats each feature as a separate app. For defrag tools, malware protection, and even process explorers, we recommend downloading separate alternatives that offer a more focused but higher-quality approach to their respective tasks.
